The Atlanta Braves went all out for Ludacris on Wednesday night (Sept. 4) when the team honored its hometown hero with a bogeyman night and a ceremonial first pitch. After handing out the bobble to the first 15,000 fans in attendance at Truist Park — depicting the Grammy-winning MC wearing jeans, a Hank Aaron No. 44 and waving a microphone in his hand — the real show came when Luda hit the mound.
After being carried onto the field by mascot Blooper, the 'Roll Out' rapper drew wild applause when fans realized he had come dressed as his larger-than-life character from the 2004 video for 'Get Back'. No, his huge prosthetic hands, oversized shoes and watch weren't some weird side effect of his recent immersion in drinking water from a glacial pool.
In fact, it was an homage to that Spike Jonze director video in which a hulking Luda confronts an overly intimate fan in a bathroom, knocking him out with his fat hands before taking to the streets with his stare. With the baseball velcro on his big mitts, Luda impressively smoked one right down the middle.
In video from the big moment, Lunda appears to be having a blast walking around in his vintage “Get Back” gear and custom No. 11 jersey. A post from the Braves celebrating his long history with the team included past gigs before the game, Luda poses with a shiny Braves 2021 World Series ring and championship trophy and other happy moments with the team over the years.
The group also shared the dishes served at the stadium on Wednesday night, inspired by the menu at the rapper's Chicken and Beer restaurant.
