Last July, the Desert Hearts crew headed to Arizona for their first edition of the festival outside of California.
After bouncing around SoCal a bit after the festival started near San Diego more than a decade ago, then moving to Riverside County in 2022 and then downtown Los Angeles in 2023, over July 4th weekend, the team has come together for this which appears to be a viable new home at the Playa Ponderosa Ranch near Flagstaff, Arizona, putting on the festival in partnership with Phoenix-based Walter Productions.
For this edition, Desert Hearts also went back to their roots, reverting to their original single-stage format for their 72 hours of house and techno. The line-up included Anja Schneider, Ardalan, Coco & Breezy, Rinzen, Life on Planets, Lubelski, Mary Droppinz, Walker & Royce and many more, including of course the founders/house DJs of Deserts Hearts, each playing individually and then together for a closing set.
Hear this closing set exclusively below, along with sets from Desert Hearts' Lee Reynolds, LA legend Doc Martin and club maven Öona Dahl.
In a statement posted on social media after the event, the Desert Hearts team he wrote that their goal with the 2024 festival was to “return Desert Hearts to the quality of events we used to host on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation. The result surprised us and far surpassed anything we had ever done before!”
They went on to say, “The past five years have been incredibly challenging for DH since he lost our long-term home during the pandemic. Canceling the 2023 camping festival was the hardest thing we've had to do since founding Desert Hearts. But it was your resilience and unwavering support that kept us going.”
Keep it up yourself with these seven hours of music from the festival.
