Musician to undergo 'preventive chemotherapy' after successful operation to remove something 'cancerous'
Heart have postponed the rest of their North American tour dates after Ann Wilson revealed she is undergoing treatment for cancer.
In a statement, Wilson said she recently “underwent surgery to remove something that turned out to be cancerous.” The musician said she “feels great” after the “successful” procedure, but decided to follow her doctor's advice to “undergo preventive chemotherapy.”
Wilson continued: “And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the time away from the stage to fully recover. For the ticket buyers, I really wish we could do these concerts. Please know that I definitely plan to return to the stage in 2025. My team is looking into these details and we will update you on the plan as soon as possible. Thank you all for the support. This is just a pause. I have a lot more to sing.”
Heart's canceled dates include the remainder of their headlining Royal Flush tour with Cheap Trick. The first leg of the trek took place in April and May and was to be repeated in August, with performances scheduled through September. Heart will also have to miss the few shows they were set to open for Def Leppard and Journey in late July and early August.
tickets for the original Royal Flush shows will be honored on the make-up dates. Information about the rescheduled shows will be announced in the coming weeks.
Heart's decision to postpone the rest of their 2024 dates comes after a European tour (originally planned for June and July) was canceled at the end of May. At the time, the band said only that Wilson would undergo a “chronically sensitive but routine medical procedure for which the minimum recovery time is six weeks.”
Heart's 2024 shows mainly found sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson reuniting after putting the band on hiatus between 2016 and 2019 due to a family dispute. In between, the two toured under different banners, as Ann put it Rolling rock in an interview about their reunion earlier this year: “We were just really sick of not playing together and we both wanted to do a Heart tour. So there's this question hanging in the air: Can Heart be Heart without Ann, or can Heart be Heart without Nancy? He could never… We just said, “Well, let's do what we have to do.” Our past sufferings, at least from my point of view, are really gone.”
