Big Sean has had a rough time on the Internet over the last couple of years (something he's touched on before), and his latest song and video show that rap fans aren't giving up.
If you noticed Baby Keem trending on X earlier Wednesday, that's because some fans on social media are claiming that Sean is using his feed, while others are pointing out that he's channeling older stuff like “Paradise.” There is no consensus as fans on social media seem to be divided. We think he's just trying something different and people are letting his rocky relationship with Keem's older cousin Kendrick Lamar get in the way.
The Detroit rapper spoke to Charlemagne that God earlier this month, where they talked about a leaked version of Lamar's song “Element” where he dissed Sean. “That song came out and he changed the line, it wasn't in the song anymore, it was a leaked lyric,” Sean said. “I had to keep that in mind because I got upset when I heard it. He changed it himself. He probably concluded that it was nothing.”
He then revealed that he and Kendrick talked and talked things out. “He apologized in a sense for going so far as to get out,” Shawn told Charlamagne. “When this sh-t leaks, people say, 'Oh, did you hear what he said about you?' I'm not a influence a– n—a, I'm solid and I stand my ground. We've already talked about it, I've already apologized for it.”
The Detroit rapper has been on fire and continues his hot streak with a new song and video that arrived on Tuesday (August 20). Directed by Diamond Visuals and presented by Lyrical Lemonade, 'Yes' shows the artist at his most confident. He plays with flows and raps like he owes the rent.
“The news – t can get scary, they had to bring the streets back/ Stupid lil' b–h wan' reminiscing some st from way back / When you slackin' at work, that's when they tryin' to take it,” he spits.
Sean has been extremely active this year.
This is his fourth single already this year as he prepares to release his highly anticipated sixth album. Start the year with “Accuracy” in March, then dropped “Yes” in July (which makes this Keem “controversy” even more confusing), and in August followed up with “On Upfor his newborn and “Together Forever” with the help of the Alchemist.
It has also been featured in “Shut up” with Jessie Reyez, “Tobey” with Eminem and BabyTron and DJ Premier with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. And let's not forget its impressiveness On the radar free over Aaliyah's”If only your girl knew.”
Better Me Than You it was originally supposed to be released on August 9, but Big Sean decided to push it back due to scheduling conflicts. No word yet on an official release date.
