High on Fire have announced their first album in six years and ninth overall. The LP, titled the storm is comingwill arrive on April 19 and includes the newly released first single, “Burning Down” (listen below).
the storm is coming serves as the long-awaited follow-up to 2018 electric messiah. The 11-song album was recorded at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou.
The album is High on Fire's first LP to feature drummer Coady Willis, who joined the band in 2021. The trio is rounded out by founding frontman Matt Pike and bassist Jeff Matz.
“'Burning Down' starts with a classic Pike riff,” Matz said of the first single. “I think this song goes back to the initial sound of High on Fire, but with new and fresh elements. It has a great rhythm that you can really immerse yourself in.”
Speaking about High on Fire's current dynamic, Pike stated: “I think this band has always had a really good drive. It is a different entity. It's something of yours. Which, I think, makes us all very proud to be a part of this. “It’s not your average band.”
