A posthumous duet between Hope Sandoval and Glen Campbell that reimagines their song “The Long Walk Home” has been released as the latest preview of the upcoming album. Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost Sessions on the Canvas. stream it below.
On the new version of “The Long Walk Home,” the Mazzy Star singer’s airy voice blends perfectly with Campbell’s, bringing extra melancholy to the song, which was written about the late country singer’s battle against the Alzheimer's. “I know I'll never be the same/I hope I still remember you,” they sing together. “Above all, I know our love will transcend / On my long road home.”
In a press release, producer and co-writer Julian Raymond revealed how Sandoval inspired Campbell's music: “Glen and I listened to a couple different Mazzy Star songs while we were preparing to record the Meet Glen Campbell album and after listening to 'Mary of Silence' he said, 'I can't do better than that.' He greatly admired Hope's talent. Her voice on 'The Long Walk Home' is just stunning and beautiful, you really feel the emotion of the song.”
Sandoval expressed her admiration for Campbell in a statement of her own, saying, “It has been a great honor to have been invited to sing with Glen on this stunning song, 'The Long Walk Home.' Her voice is captivatingly beautiful. She is by far one of the greatest country music artists and vocalists of all time.”
Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost Sessions on the Canvas arrives on April 19 and pre-orders are in progress. Also includes contributions from Brian Wilson, Carole King, Dolly Parton, Elton John and Dave Stewart.
