Texas rapper BeatKing has died at the age of 39.
The rapper and producer behind tracks like “Then Leave” and “Scream,” born Justin Riley, has been a driving force in Houston's underground scene. BeatKing's death was confirmed on August 15 by his manager, Tasha Felderin a statement posted on Instagram.
“Today, August 15, 2024, we lost BeatKing,” Felder wrote. “BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists that his sound will live on forever. He loved his daughters, his music and his fans. We will love him forever.”
The Houston, Texas native has been a staple in the city's music scene, with his tracks often becoming the soundtrack for clubgoers.
BeatKing's influence extended beyond Houston as he collaborated with notable artists such as 2 Chainz, Moneybagg Yo and Erica Banks. His distinct style and ability to create hits made him a beloved figure in the rap community.
BeatKing is survived by his daughters, who were often referenced in his music and social media posts. Details on the cause of his death have not been released.
BeatKing's most recent hit came with “Then Leave,” which reached No. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and No. 48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
