Thanks to some technological wizardry, hyper-realistic wax replicas of Daft Punk have landed at Madame Tussauds in New York.
Daft Punk may be no more, but the robots now remain frozen in time as wax effigies at the site, one of the country's most popular tourist attractions. New lookalikes for Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo will appear behind a DJ booth in the resort's Glow Gala area alongside models for Ariana Grande, Matthew McConaughey, Rihanna and Beyoncé.
They are decorated with pyramid pendant necklaces, a callback to his iconic “Alive” stage, and custom-made replicas of his iconic black sequined Le Smoking tuxedo suits designed in 2013 by influential Yves Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane.
Madame Tussauds recently partnered with French DJ collective Maison Disco to host an event at Brooklyn's Avant Gardner and feature the wax faces. The evening consisted of “an elevated audio-visual experience” featuring classic '90s French house music and a retrospective of Daft Punk's timeless discography.
The wax figures of Bangalter and Homem-Christo were commissioned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Random access memories, the latest album by Daft Punk. The legendary electronic music duo released an extended version featuring previously unheard recordings last summer before following up with a stripped-down performance of “Drumless” in November.
Ben Shapiro, marketing executive at Madame Tussauds New York, said the stunning statues celebrate the enduring legacy of Daft Punk and French House music.
“As Daft Punk and Madame Tussauds share French origins, this collaboration is a testament to the innovation and artistic brilliance of those who came before us and to the ability of music and art to transcend global borders,” Shapiro said in a statement. release.
