Canon is known for many things, such as producing top-notch professional DSLRs, but music is not one of them. Now, the iconic camera company is redefining its reputation with the release of its first music album.
The brand has long focused on designing equipment to help people capture the beauties and complexities of the world. By focusing attention on the creatives behind the camera rather than its technical specifications, Canon's new album speaks to the time, energy and emotional labor put in by its photographers, who put countless hours into their work.
The album, Auto focus, spans seven tracks and features 40 minutes of electronic soundscapes curated to boost productivity, creativity and focus. “Warm chord progressions” and “higher frequencies” collide to create rhythmic tones, according to a Press release.
An eight-minute long ambient “brain break” track called “Pause” was composed to promote the brain health of creatives, giving them a moment to unplug their busy minds. Additional research by Canon Europe found that it only takes about six minutes for people to listen to relaxing tunes while working to experience a “flow” of strong concentration.
Psychoacoustics expert Lyz Cooper teamed up with Jimmy Day of music production collective LOYAL to produce the album for Canon.
“Our research at the British Academy of Sound Therapy has shown that when people enter a relaxed state, ideas and inspirations can arise, as well as a release of mental, physical and emotional stress and tension,” said Cooper, founder of the organization. “This helps the creative process flow more freely and prevents brain fatigue.”
