Idaho Announces First New album In 13 Years, Share Video For New Song 'On Fire'

Idaho slowcore pioneers have announced their first new album in 13 years. Mediationand shared his first single, “On Fire,” via a music video. Mediation will be released on May 31st via Arts & Crafts. Check out “On Fire” below, followed by the tracklist and album art.

Idaho was formed in 1992 and their last album was in 2011 You were Dick. The band also announced a new vinyl set for this fall featuring their long-out-of-print debut album—Time to time (1993), This Way Out (1994), and Three leaves in the wind (1996)—as well as a bonus disc of rare and unreleased material from the era. Details, including the exact release date, are still forthcoming.

Idaho co-founder Jeff Martin said of the new album in a press release: “Recording Mediation started on January 1, 2022, after a lively New Year's Eve party at Out There bar at 29 Palms. Nursing a rare hangover, I welcomed guitarist Robby Fronzo, fresh from Los Angeles, to my mother's house in the desert amid much excited barking from my pit bull Thurmon and producer/engineer Bill Sanke's pit/lab mix, Maggie. Over the next few months, this record took shape, unwittingly paying homage to Idaho's past, heavily influenced by my collaboration with Robbie. In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, Robby reached out to me on Instagram and offered to help complete the demo clips I've been sharing online… Every post since then Hearts of Palm 2000 was more of a solo effort, so the synergy of working together is a nice thing to have back in the fray. The high desert setting lent its voice to this LP… how could it not? The colors, textures and endless sunsets of the sky. Thank you Mother Lynda for letting us desecrate your sanctuary for the good part of '22. The large living room gave us a chance to stretch out, power up and let the sound waves grow as they should. As fate would have it, Bill had to leave, leaving me to mix the album myself. I often wonder if a professional could have achieved a better result, but nevertheless, I feel proud to finally break the wild spell of Idaho.”
