One of dubstep's masters has returned with his first solo music in over six years.
Joker is perhaps best known for “Purple City“, an influential dubstep song released in 2009 with Ginz. Now it's back with a bang thanks to a pair of new singles, “Juggernaut” and “S Wave.”
As powerful a track as it sounds, “Juggernaut” is a masterful display of the pioneering producer's ability to combine nostalgia with forward-thinking production. It's backed by haunting, spectral synths that set the stage for the main event, a gut-wrenching bassline that cuts through the mix with relentless force. This core element is reminiscent of the early days of dubstep while also feeling completely contemporary.
On the other hand, “S Wave” takes us on a different but equally exciting journey. The track is a showcase of menacing synths anchored by strong percussion and relentless basslines, driving the arrangement with a momentum that's hard to resist.
Along with his latest original work, Joker notably appeared on “Tears,” a fan-favorite cut from Skrillex's 2023 comeback album. In search of fire.
“Juggernaut” and “S Wave” are available now via Joker's Kapsize Records. You can listen to both tracks below and purchase limited vinyl copies at band camp.
