Jack Harlow had an early Christmas present for his hometown fans over the weekend when he teamed up with the Louisville Orchestra for a pair of No Place Like Home 2024 shows at the city's Whitney Hall. The fourth annual event – where attendees are invited to “dress to impress” – took place on Friday and Saturday (November 29-30) and once again featured the orchestra and conductor Teddy Abrams backing Harlow during a set of classic augmented classics by .
However, Harlow added a little extra spice to the mix this year when he released a plush cover of the Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 of 1961's “Can't Help Falling in Love.” The fan video of the special moment found Harlow, dressed in a dark double-breasted suit with a light blue shirt and black tie, deftly crooning the song over the strings, to much cheers from the audience.
Comments about the sold-out shows suggest fans are ready for the rapper/actor's twist on the coronavirus, including one poster who wrote, “he's got to release it,” as well as others who said, “countdown to 'I 'm” not just a rapper, I'm an artist interview”, “fans know he can sing” and “It was so sweet of Jack that he dedicated this song to his grandmother on the balcony. The whole show was amazing, he should release instrumental versions of all his albums.”
According to WLKYthis wasn't the only vocal detour Harlow made, as he also covered Frank Sinatra's favorite standard very capably.Throw me to the moon” on the second night, which he dedicated to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday — and his grandmother on Saturday, along with hits from his catalog. THE Courier-Journal noted that a couple became engaged during “Can't Help Falling in Love”.
Harlow released his first new single since 2023's 'Lovin on Me' last month, 'Hello Miss Johnson', which he performed live for the first time at the shows. The song's release was accompanied by a video played on CCTV of Harlow flirting with Miss Johnson's daughter. The track is the second single from the rapper's untitled, unplanned fourth album, Jackmanwhich was released in April 2023.
During a show at New York's Brooklyn Paramount in September, Harlow teased his next musical era, telling the audience, “I've got something very special coming up… Next time I see you, we'll have something to talk about.”
