Jack Valero will return with new single “Karaoke Dreams” on June 7. The new song arrives as Jack prepares for a series of UK festivals this summer, including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight, among other dates ahead.
Jack Valero's rising star vibes have been amplified in recent weeks. After signing a new deal with Modern Sky UK (Lottery Winners, Miles Kane), he recruited his friend and labelmate, acclaimed singer-songwriter Jamie Webster, to produce his upcoming EP 'Not In Kansas Anymore', due out on 6th September.
The first single from the EP, “Always Something You Can Do”, introduced a kaleidoscopic sound with soaring choruses and harmonies and was approved by tastemakers at BBC Introducing, Radio X, This Feeling and Amazing Radio. Jack's slow and steady work continues with the release of a new single “Karaoke Dreams.” Like “Always Something You Can Do,” “Karaoke Dreams” continues Jack's forays into raucous rock gems with big crescendos.
In a song that is sure to become a head-turning moment of his live performance, Jack takes us from a simple acoustic guitar intro and layers of additional detail at every turn: the guitars bloom to soulful effect and “twist and thrill with perfect guitar chords”. who have that Johnny Marr' (John Robb) sense of perfection. In keeping with his affinity for kitchen drama, the story Jack shares is a poetic observation about a couple who seem destined to be together, if only one of them has the courage to take the first step. Told primarily from a third-person perspective, it is a narrative that Jack has lived.
As Jack explains:
“This song is very personal to me, it's about being in love with someone who you're sure feels the same way but neither of you will step forward and admit it. Being stuck in a place where you both deceive yourself, there is nothing there and you both know it, but you never say it out loud. It's all looks and gestures. They both want it to explode, but it can't. You never know if what you're waiting for will one day come and if you're just being a fool… or at least not yet. This happened to me and I wrote this song after spending an amazing day with that person and feeling so sad when they left. But it had a good ending, because now we are going to get married.”
“Karaoke Dreams” was written by Jack and produced by Jamie Webster with frequent collaborator Tim Cunningham and performed with the rest of the 'scouse wrecking crew': Jim Sharrock (drums) and Danny Murphy (guitar).
Jack Valero and his band Theo Williams (drums), Jake Mason (guitar), Pedro Silva (bass) and Amie Shoulder (vocals) recently played in Europe for the first time. London Calling, the UK's showcase of new music based in Amsterdam, chose their packed set as the highlight of their 2024 event and they know what they're looking for, having previously hosted first shows from big names such as Wet Leg, Wolf Alice and Blur. Having made a huge impression on the Hope Not Hate tour, Jack and the band now kick off the summer with big festival dates at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Sziget. Their next shows are:
