Some from Asia The biggest stars turned out in Tokyo over the weekend to celebrate its official opening The Tokyo EDITION Ginzathe newest property in the EDITION Hotels portfolio.
K-pop icon Jackson Wang, DJ Peggy Gou, K-drama star Jung Il Woo and Japanese musician/actor Miyavi were among the guests who attended the two-day event, which helped ring in the new boutique hotel 14 floors. located in the toney Ginza district of Tokyo.
Joined by international stars such as Dita Von Teese and Nick Grimshaw, the festivities kicked off on March 14 with an invitation-only dinner at Sophie's in EDITION, the hotel's brasserie with a Japanese lineup. Dinner and dessert quickly gave way to an intimate dance party, where Wang was seen taking selfies with the Japanese artist (and Blackpink art director) Verdy and MMA star Kota Miura, while revelers were treated to a surprise performance by former Brand New Heavies singer N'Dea Davenport, followed by DJ sets from Grimshaw, AMIAYA and Daito Manabe.
The party finally made its way to the Punch Room, EDITION's global bar concept, known for serving mix-driven drinks in giant punch bowls. The Punch Room at Ginza EDITION offers Japanese-inspired cocktails based on local spirits and ingredients such as sake, yuzu, citrus, Fuji apples and ryokucha tea. Guests partied late into the night (even by Tokyo standards) with performances from local artist Kona Rose and DJ sets from SHUZO, YAMATO and Sunny.
The second night of EDITION's two-night Tokyo takeover brought guests to the hotel chain's other local property, The Tokyo EDITION Toranomon. After dinner at The Jade Room + Garden Terrace, the hotel's rooftop restaurant helmed by British chef Tom Aikens, guests were taken to Gold Bar, the property's neighboring nightclub and lounge.
While the party served as an opportunity to promote EDITION's hotels in Tokyo, it also marked the 10-year reunion of MEAT, an underground Tokyo club night that gained popularity in the 2000s. Some of the biggest DJs from MEAT were on hand to spin. at the Gold Bar, including Mademoiselle Yulia and YOSHIROTTEN (all put together by Stevie King of Purple PR). They were joined by DJs PELI, Aimee Phillips and Grimshaw (back for an encore set) as some of Tokyo's trendiest artists, musicians and influencers hit the stylish and intimate venue.
While the Toranomon property opened three years ago as Japan was slowly emerging from Covid, The Tokyo EDITION Ginza had a much more immediate path to opening. In a privileged corner of the trendy Ginza district, the impressive, cubic building first welcomed visitors in late 2023, combining the edgy sensibilities of the EDITION brand in New York with the refinement and tranquility of Japan. While Toranomon is a tall and gleaming outpost, nestled among Tokyo's skyscrapers and office towers, the Ginza property is moody and minimalist, set off by a gridded exterior and a floor-to-ceiling light installation just after the entrance. .
The Ginza Hotel has 86 rooms across its 14 floors, along with a rooftop oasis overlooking the bustling Chuo-dori, the neighborhood's legendary shopping avenue. In addition to being steps away from Tokyo's designer boutiques and galleries, EDITION Ginza is also a few blocks away from Ginza's Kabukiza Theater, which has staged performances of traditional Japanese kabuki since the end of the 19th century. Both Tsukiji Old Market (also known as Tsukiji Fish Market) and the Imperial Palace (which has served as the residence of the Japanese emperor since 1868) are a short walk or taxi ride away. Also worth noting: Ginza has the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in all of Japan, with 34 of the city's 183 Michelin-starred restaurants located in the area.
Tokyo EDITION Ginza is the 19th property in the EDITION Hotels portfolio. Created by hotelier Ian Schrager, in partnership with Marriott International, EDITION now has properties around the world, including other recent openings in Bodrum (Turkey), Tampa Bay and Riviera Maya in Mexico.
