Jamie xx has announced his new album, in the waves, available September 20 from Young. In anticipation, she released the latest single, “Treat Each Other Right,” and its accompanying music video.
Recorded over four years, Jamie xx's second album features appearances from Robyn, The Avalanches, Panda Bear, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, Oona Doherty and fellow The xx members Romy and Oliver Sim. Additionally, DJ and producer Honey Dijon contributed to the previously released single “Baddy on the Floor.”
in the waves will be available as a deluxe LP with a bonus 12-inch featuring previously released singles “It's So Good,” “LET'S DO IT AGAIN,” and “KILL DEM” along with new Erykah Badu collaboration “FU” and “Do “Something.” Pre-orders for all formats are in progress.
“It's been a while… and a lot has happened in that time,” Jamie xx shared in a statement. “Ups and downs, growing up, discovering things and then forgetting them many times. Life-changing events and world-changing events. These waves that we have all experienced together and alone.”
He continued: “I wanted to do something fun, light-hearted and introspective at the same time. The best moments on a dance floor are usually those for me.”
“Treat Each Other Right,” a staple of Jamie xx’s DJ sets in recent years, fits the bill perfectly. With soulful vocals and an irresistible breakbeat, the song is sure to be the soundtrack to parties all summer long. Watch the Rosie Marks-directed video below.
Jamie xx will celebrate the launch of in the waves with a local show at London's Alexandra Palace on September 26.
