Jelly Roll knows how to add some fun to an inspiring day.
The “Son of a Sinner” singer posted clips on Instagram of his visit to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center in Houston, Texas, where he brought inmates pizza and even challenged them to a basketball game. “I don't know you but I love you. When I was in a place like that, nobody told me that,” he says in the video. “When I was young, no one ever came to talk to me, no one ever came to bring me pizza or anything like that — I brought you pizza. I know how far a slice of pizza can go at this place. I can't wait to hit them on the basketball court in a minute.”
While Jellie was confident at first, his basketball skills quickly proved inadequate when faced with the prisoners. “They are moving our a-s. They have plays. They're trying to win,” he told the camera.
Basketball has been a huge part of Jelly Roll's recent fitness routine, recently revealing he's lost 100 pounds. In an October update on social media, Jelly's nutrition coach Ian Larios explained that in addition to a healthy diet, he's “walking in arenas, playing basketball, boxing.”
Later in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center video, the Grammy-nominated superstar shared some powerful advice. “What I've learned for sure, what you love, do. While you can do it. It is the law of labor. I've never seen it not work on anyone. If you do it like you love it hard enough for long enough, it will inevitably play out,” he said.
