Jelly Roll is celebrating National Donut Day by revealing where it got its sweet stage name.
In a new PSA for Dunkin' that coincides with the holiday Friday (June 7), the country star, born Jason Bradley DeFord, answers the question that “everyone always asks me”: How did the Jelly Roll get its name?
“Believe it or not, the truth is, it's because of these little kids here,” the singer/songwriter says as he selects a jelly roll from a box of twelve Dunkin' donuts. “Growing up, donuts were really my kryptonite. My mom used to tell me all the time that I'm so sweet, I can open my own Dunkin'.
Jelly also demonstrates his personal favorite donut techniques on the spot (“I like to dunk them, but you have to be careful they don't turn to mush”), including the “Bunnie Dunk” — named after his wife Bunnie XO — which involves bunny-hopping a donut to a cup of coffee. Next up is the brutal “Nash Smash,” which Jelly calls “a nod to my Nashville roots” (and fans definitely shouldn't try this at home). He even shares some donuts with his dog Bussie.
The cute PSA concludes with the singer letting viewers know, “Life's better with a little jelly in it, baby.”
To celebrate National Donut Day, Dunkin' will be offering a free donut with the purchase of any beverage on Friday (June 7). The fast-food chain is also releasing a new collection of merchandise (available starting at noon ET Friday) on ShopDunkin.comincluding a pink “Jelly” hoodie.
