Regional Mexican star Jenni Rivera is to be honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday (June 18).
Known as “La Diva de la Banda,” Rivera will be honored June 27 with the 2,783 star, dedicated to the recording category, which will be located in front of Capitol Records on Vine Street. Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi will speak during the ceremony, and Rivera's five children — Jacqie, Johnny, Chiquis, Jenicka and Michael — will accept the star on her behalf.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor the legendary Jenni Rivera with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” Ana Martinez, producer of Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “Jenni's star represents not only her incredible achievements as an artist, but also her resilience, courage and unwavering spirit that continue to inspire fans around the world.”
At the time of her death on December 9, 2012, Rivera, 43, was at the height of her career and the most successful woman in the region of Mexico and Advertising sign Latin maps. With anthems like “Inolvidable,” “De Contrabando,” “Basta Ya” and “Resulta,” Rivera carved a lane for herself in a male-dominated genre.
Rivera participated in more than 30 songs on Regional Mexican Airplay, 15 of which entered the top 10. On the Hot Latin Songs chart, she placed a total of 25 songs, two of which hit the top 10: “Ahora Que Estuviste Lejos” and “La Misma Gran Señora ».
