Actress-singer makes a rare foray into sci-fi in movie coming to Netflix May 24
Fresh off with a star inside her This Is Me… Now: A Love StoryJennifer Lopez will return to the small screen this Memorial Day weekend with the sci-fi film Atlas.
In the teaser for the film, which arrives May 24 on Netflix, Lopez is on a solo mission to save humanity with the help of a well-armed robot. “The future of humanity is in her hands,” warns the tagline.
The streaming service's synopsis reads: “Atlas Shepherd (Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope to save humanity's future from artificial intelligence is to trust it.”
Atlas, directed by Brad Peyton, also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong. The film marks a rare foray into the sci-fi world for Lopez, whose last starring role in a sci-fi film was in the 2000s The cell.
Lopez recently starred in the Prime Video double feature This Is Me… Now: A Love Storyvisual companion to her new album and documentary The greatest love story never told.
In a recent interview with Rolling rockLopez shared:This is me… Now I actually accept who I am. He says, “This is who I am now! This is who I am and I fully embrace it with all the scars and faults and all the amazing achievements and beauty and all the different things that are me. Right now, I will accept and love that person.”
