I want blood is the follow-up to Cantrell's 2021 album, ClarifyThe new LP is packed with notable collaborators, including bassists Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses) and Robert Trujillo (Metallica); drummers Mike Bordin (Faith No More) and Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies); and backing vocals by Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan) and Lola Colette.
“This album is a serious work. It’s a pain,” Cantrell said about I want blood“It's difficult, for sure, and completely different to Brighten. And that's what you want, to end up in a different place. There's a confidence on this album. I think it's one of my best songs and performances, and certainly one of my best performances.
Sonically, the single “Vilified” is in the style of Alice in Chains, and features Trujillo on bass and Sharone on drums.
“'Vilified' travels to a lot of places in just four and a half minutes,” Cantrell said of the song. “It has a ferocity and a really aggressive vibe to it.”
I want blood It was co-produced by Cantrell and co-produced by Cantrell and Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age), and was recorded at Barresi's JHOC studio in Pasadena, California.
