Jimmy Eat World is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his influential third studio album, Clarity, by releasing a 2021 live recording on vinyl. Currently, the limited edition 2xLP will arrive on May 24.
As the name suggests, Clarity: Phoenix Sessions was recorded live during Jimmy Eat World's three-night livestream series of the same name in 2021, in which the band performed a different album in its entirety during each show. They originally released the live recording on digital platforms later that year, and you can stream it below.
The 2xLP collection is pressed on sun-kissed translucent vinyl and will be packaged in a gatefold packaging containing never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photography of Steve Thrasher and liner notes from the band. Pre-orders are in progress.
“The way we play songs evolves over time: One person adds a flourish, and then the next night another person picks it up and adds their own thing,” singer-guitarist Jim Adkins said in a statement. “This Phoenix Session of Clarity It's our best attempt to play the album faithfully as we are today. I'd like to think we've learned a thing or two since 1999. We're grateful for the opportunity to document where the songs are now. And thank you for joining us on the journey.”
Jimmy Eat World's last album was 2019. Survivor, and their most recent single was last year's “Telepath.” They are set to embark on a US tour with Fall Out Boy later this month; get your tickets here.
