The Netflix stand-up special, the comedian's first in six years, will air on August 3
Podcast host and Comedian Joe Rogan will return to stand-up in the Netflix comedy special Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats, Netflix announced on Tuesday. The comedy special marks Rogan's first special on the streamer in six years. Rogan's previous Netflix credits include 2016's Joe Rogan: Activated and 2018 Joe Rogan: Strange Times.
“Don't be mad at me,” Rogan says in the accompanying trailer announcing his return. “You know why you came here.”
In February, Rogan signed a multi-year deal worth up to $250 million for his podcast Joe Rogan experienceas Wall Street Journal he reports, making his controversial podcast available on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and YouTube. The podcast was previously exclusive to Spotify from 2020 to 2023.
Rogan's podcast, which has released more than 2,200 episodes, has been criticized for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and conspiracy theories. In 2022, several musicians, including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, pulled their tracks from Spotify to boycott Rogan's anti-hoax rhetoric. Spotify also removed several episodes from the Experience Joe Rogan, which began in 2009, following reports that he used racial slurs during tapings of the show.
Indie.Arie too announced that she would be releasing her musicm Spotify in protest of Rogan and shared a subsequent collection of clips of Rogan using the N-word. Although Rogan said in an Instagram video that it was “the saddest and most embarrassing thing I've ever had to talk about publicly,” he said that it “got out of context”.
“It's not my word to use. I'm well aware of it now, but for years I used it that way,” he said during the six-minute video. “I never used it to be racist because I'm not racist.”
Rogan's live is special Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats will be filmed in San Antonio, Texas at the Majestic Theatre. It will premiere on August 3 at 10 p.m. ET.
