The action-comedy film arrives on Prime Video on August 15
In the trailer for Prime Video Total betsJohn Cena and Awkwafina find out what it would be like if The purge it was real but only for people who play the lottery. Out Aug. 15, the film follows Awkwafina's Katie — the proud owner of a winning lottery ticket with a bounty on her head — and Cena's Noel, the amateur jackpot patron tasked with keeping her alive.
Total bets it's set in 2030, just six years in the future, but it still seems too close for comfort. Based in Los Angeles, Katie is an aspiring actress attending an audition when she receives notification that she has won the grand jackpot prize. Unfortunately for her, all the other competing actresses in the open call also get the notification — and if they or anyone else with a lost ticket kills her before sundown, the money is theirs.
“That's murder,” Katie notes when Noel informs her of the rules, to which he replies, “Oh, not in California. It's just a chance at the big time.” And to make matters worse, a rival protection agency led by Simu Liu's Louis Lewis also wants in on the action.
Directed by Paul Feig, Total bets Also starring Ayden Mayeri, Machine Gun Kelly, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari and Murray Hill. The film comes with a screenplay by Rob Yescombe.
Total bets marks Cena's third comedy appearance of the year Argyll and Ricky Stanicky, another Prime Video movie. It also finds Awkwafina returning to human form after a series of animated films, including the latest installment of Kung Fu Panda franchise, two Immigration movies and John Krasinski IF.
