John Oliver mocked Disney by posing next to an imitation of Mickey Mouse in a new promotion for the return. Last week tonight.
“We returned on February 18th and we're pretty sure this was a good way to let you know!! Yes, it's probably fine,” reads one cheep teasing the next season of the show. Meanwhile, the accompanying sign reads: “What are they going to do, sue?”
The parody arises after the original Mickey Mouse version of 1928. Willie the steamboat entered the public domain in early 2024. Shortly after, several projects were announced that put a spin on the character, including a horror film called Mickey Mouse Trapan untitled horror comedy by Steven LaMorte, and a video game called Infestation: origins.
Last December, HBO renewed Last Week Tonight with John Oliver for three more seasons, keeping the series on the air until 2026. New episodes air Sunday nights on HBO and are available to stream on Max.
