Jon Bon Jovi will discuss it all — Richie Sambora, his debilitating vocal cord injury, his legacy, and more — in a new hour-long interview special with Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan.
Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi : Halfway There is set to premiere this Sunday, April 28, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC before arriving on Hulu the following day, April 29. A new trailer for the special, which offers a glimpse at its scope, is premiering today exclusively on Rolling Stone.
“I feel a bunch of emotions,” Bon Jovi says at the start of the clip. “The road is not always rainbows and unicorns. I think it goes back to truth — that’s the only way to tell this story, is to tell the honest to goodness truth.” A few moments later, after Strahan asks Bon Jovi what the biggest misconception about him is, the musician replies, “I’m a rock and roll star, I’m not a saint!”
Elsewhere in the clip, Bon Jovi talks about his longtime marriage to high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley and the band’s new album and docuseries while also showing Strahan around his personal archive (at which point the former NFL star can’t help but sing a bit of “Wanted Dead or Alive”). Unsurprisingly, the trailer offers no hint at his answer to a question about potentially reuniting with Sambora, but it does find him discussing the fear that accompanied a vocal cord injury that nearly ended his career a couple of years ago.
The interview special, and all of Bon Jovi’s other recent activities, coincide with the band’s 40th anniversary this year. Their new album, Forever, is set to arrive June 7, and following the SXSW premiere of Thank You, Goodnight, the four-part docuseries will arrive this Friday, April 26, on Hulu.
