Track by Track is our recurring series where artists guide readers through each song on their new release. Today, former CoSign Jordana of Consequence discusses her new album, Animated premonition.
When Jordana spoke with us two years ago about her sophomore effort, Facing the wallthe most important theme was “self-growth.” Now, with his new album, animated premonitionThat growth has generated a more developed and mature sound for the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter.
Her crystal clear voice and personality still show well, but animated premonition brings more organic instrumentation, folk-inflected harmonies, and a Laurel Canyon vibe that adds some extra warmth to their sunny sound. In addition, he has recovered his violin for the first time in several years.
“Maybe it's my history in Los Angeles,” says Jordana, referring to her move to California after a brief stint in Brooklyn during her Facing the wall was. He worked on the album throughout 2023 with multi-instrumentalist and producer Emmett Kai, diving into a different writing style. “It's about the cycle of love, heartbreak, lust, partying, self-acceptance, connections, and rediscovery of yourself over and over again,” he says.
Throughout the 10 tracks of animated premonitionJordana digs deeper into the well of inspiration, taking cues from '70s yacht rock and folk pop, as well as the '00s indie she grew up with. But even with more unpredictable instrumentation and melodies, Jordana is letting the light in on animated premonitionAnd she had never sounded so radiant.
