DJ/production duo Justice are back with a new song, “Saturnine,” featuring guest vocals from R&B singer Miguel. The track will appear on the French group’s new album, Hyperdrama, out April 26 via Ed Banger/Because Music.
Though led by some blazing, bright synth work and Miguel’s unmistakable falsetto, “Saturnine” takes some moody turns befitting its title. In a statement, Justice said, “We don’t think we’ve ever made anything that sounds remotely like this track before.”
After Gaspard Augé found the lead riff via an E-mu synthesizer guitar sound, the rest of the song “came very quickly,” Justice continued. “We love Miguel’s voice when it’s raw. We wanted him to sound outrageously frontal, with no space around his voice. We felt confident we could make this work with a single mono take of his voice, and minimal processing. It also suited the theme of the song, that’s this sort of fear and loathing in Las Vegas sweaty, hallucinatory flow. Feeling well in feeling bad.”
Miguel added, “Been friends with Xavier and Gaspard for some years now so to finally work together and get a great song has been the best experience. Merging our sounds felt effortless ”
Along with sharing “Saturnine,” Justice announced a short run of North American tour dates in support of Hyperdrama. The tour kicks off July 25 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York and wraps Aug. 4 with a set at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal. The group also has sets scheduled at Coachella next month, along with a handful of shows in Mexico, and Europe.
Tickets for the newly announced headlining U.S. shows will go on sale tomorrow, March 21, at 10 a.m. local time. Full info is available on Justice’s website.
Justice announced Hyperdrama back in January. The album marks the duo’s fourth LP and first since 2016’s Woman (though they did release a remix album, Woman Worldwide, in 2018). Justice have shared a handful of songs from the album, including “One Night/All Night” with Tame Impala, “Generator,” and “Incognito.”
