Twins, rock stars, special. Justin and Jeremy Garcia will be looking to join the crew.
The San Francisco Bay Area teenage brothers entered the Knockouts round of this 25th season of The voicewith a natural blend of harmony and hygiene.
The 17-year-olds landed their Blind Audition with a cover of One Direction's “Story of My Life,” catching the attention of coaches Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire and newcomers Dan + Shay for a three-chair turn (only John Legend was unmoved).
“From the first time I heard you harmonizing and found out it was two people, I was like, 'We've got to shoot. This is amazing,” remarked Shay Mooney.
These words of support helped the Garcia Twins choose Dan + Shay as their coaches this season.
At Battles, the Garcias were upstaged again by another Garcia, 19-year-old Frank Garcia, performing Lady Gaga's “Million Reasons.”
Frank delivered in a big way and moved on. As the twins left the scene, defeated, McEntire used her Steal. “I wanted you so much,” she said excitedly. “I love your harmonies, I love that you are brothers and it sounds so good. I want to work with you so much. Welcome to the Reba team.”
For these slippery Knockouts, the Filipino-American pair performed Callum Scott's “You Are the Reason,” going up against Team McEntire's Zeya, who sang Bishop Briggs' “River.”
“Zeya, you did a great job,” Coach McEntire remarked afterward. “I would have loved to have seen you stay in one spot on this song, but your voice is great. You know that.”
The brothers engaged in another plot twist, this time breaking out of their harmonies and breaking off for individual runs. Coach McEntire rose from her chair first to applause.
“You're all cute as a button,” she said. “I thought you did a great job. There were a few little things I thought you might have missed, but kudos for doing it. You did a great job.”
Not only were they not lost, but now they are on a straight course. McEntire picked the brothers to advance to the Playoffs.
“It was a tough decision because Zeya is so good,” McEntire explained. “But I had to choose Justin and Jeremy because of the uniqueness of their act. They're all great singers, but we have to have something a little different and going with the brothers was part of my strategy.”
