Kacey Musgraves is back with her new album Deeper wellbut according to her, she hardly lived to see the day.
While filming the music video for the project's title track in Iceland, the country star said she almost threw herself off an extremely tall, steep cliff. “We literally picked the worst possible week to go,” he told Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show Thursday (March 14). “It was high wind warnings – I almost got thrown off that cliff.”
“I was almost like, 'This video is going to be my death announcement,'” he continued with a laugh. “It was just a drop in the ocean. It was treacherous. Even the locals were saying, “This is something scary.”
The country star also shared a video of her and her crew huddling together against the ear-splitting wind, with Musgraves holding onto her jacket tightly to keep it from flying off her body.
Fortunately, the “Deeper Well” optic. it turned out to be stunning, with footage of the singer-songwriter wandering through lush countryside and beaches, as well as bird's-eye shots of Iceland's magnificent canyons. But the raging winds weren't the only unexpected mishap Musgraves faced while in the country, with the star telling Fallon that she and her manager were sent a speeding ticket overseas after racing home from a botched tracking mission of the Northern Lights.
“It was $10, so it was worth it, obviously,” he quipped, showing the audience a photo taken by Iceland's hidden in-car speed cameras.
Deeper well arrived at midnight on Friday (March 15), marking Musgraves' first LP since 2021 Cross cross. The project was preceded by two singles – the title track and “Too Good to Be True”.
