Kaleena Zanders is more defiant on her new single, “BURN IT DOWN,” an emboldened house anthem.
EDM.com's Class of 2022 star has returned to Helix Records for this cathartic track, which doubles as a total purge. She basically detonates the ghost of her machine and rebuilds herself in the ashes of her own production.
With lyrics that are both a rallying cry and a mantra of liberation, “BURN IT DOWN” is a pyre on which old limitations are consumed. Through a stentorian vocal and piano chords that cascade like air currents, Zanders calls out and demands to be freed from the icy grip of conformity.
According to Zanders, the emotional song represents a deeply reflective period of “personal discovery and awakening.” When she writes songs, she does so from the perspective of a superhero character she created herself, she says.
“I have become an inner burning flame that cleanses my soul of states of exhaustion and false beliefs about myself and the world,” she explained in a press release. “Through this ecdysis and growth, I feel fierce and indignant that our systems have led us astray and betrayed us all. This is my idea of starting over and raising the stakes to achieve a greater good and working to live a free life and, if not free, a life of peace.”
