Kasablanca has struck a chord once again, this time reviving a '90s classic with their explosive cover of The Prodigy's “Breathe,” which is coming to streaming services.
What began as a spontaneous, fan-favorite live performance has now been immortalized, thanks in part to the blessing of the Prodigy themselves. First performed during their set at the 2023 Above & Beyond Group Therapy Weekend, Kasablanca’s striking reimagining of the band’s generational anthem redefines it for a new era of dance music fans.
The original’s filthy guitar riff, a staple of The Prodigy’s sound that is frequently interpolated, is transformed by Kasablanca into a searing, acidic bassline, tailor-made for today’s techno enthusiasts. The late Keith Flint’s timeless vocals still resonate with their original ferocity, now intertwined with Kasablanca’s characteristically cinematic synth work.
Released on Anjunabeats, where the duo have become a fixture with their synthwave-infused sounds, “Breathe” follows a string of hit singles including “Terminal Feeling.” Kasablanca’s version stays true to the incendiary spirit of the original, amplifying its danceability and paying homage to her roots. The release is the fourth single from her highly anticipated debut album, Higher resolutionwhich will be released in two parts. The first will arrive on October 4.
