Kate Middleton received a standing ovation as she sat courtside at Wimbledon on Sunday for the men's final, marking just her second public appearance since revealing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
On Saturday, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales – patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet, reports the BBC — would also be on hand to watch and then present the trophy to the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Before taking her seat in the Royal Box on Center Court for the championship match, Middleton, accompanied by her daughter Princess Charlotte, met with 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu as well as young British tennis players. the Associated Press mentiontedadding that Middleton wore purple as it is one of the official colors of the tennis tournament.
“Great to be back at Wimbledon!” Middletown wrote on social media alongside photos of herself at the tennis match. “There's nothing like the Championship.”
Middleton's first public appearance since revealing her cancer was in June when she attended the Trooping the Color ceremony in London to mark the “official” birthday of King Charles III, who is also battling cancer but has since returned in public duties.
“I'm making good progress, but as anyone who goes through chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days,” Middleton shared in a statement ahead of the Trooping the Color ceremony.
“On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to let your body rest. But on good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling good. My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days when I'm feeling pretty good, it's a joy to catch up on school life, spend personal time on things that give me energy and positivity, and start doing some work from home.”
Middleton's husband Prince William spent Sunday in Berlin to watch the Euro 2024 soccer final between England and Spain.
