It's been almost four years since Katy Perry donned a clown nose on the cover of her sixth studio album. Smile. The follow up to 2017's somewhat dismal album Witness featured collaborations with producers such as Charlie Puth, Stargate and Zedd and an upbeat vibe fueled by the singles “Daisies” and “Smile”.
On Monday night (April 15), after suffering a near wardrobe malfunction American IdolPerry spoke Access to Hollywood about the incident and also gave a sneak peek at what fans can expect from her yet-to-be-titled next album. “I haven't made a record yet from a place where I feel really happy and whole and full of love,” said Perry, who shares three-and-a-half-year-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom with actor fiance Orlando Bloom.
“Sometimes artists say, 'Oh, that's boring, you want to make music from a harder place,' but it's actually very bright and happy, like pure joy and fun, playful and festive and a party.”
While Perry has not announced additional details about the album, Monday night Idol — during which the top 20 was condensed into a top 14 — the singer almost had too much fun when the elaborate, sculptural metallic top she wore nearly came off during the show.
“I wouldn't call it a malfunction, I just call it an interesting moment on live television,” he said. Access to Hollywood about the incident that had fellow judge Luke Bryan try to present and mend Kate Barton's torn aluminum T-shirt as stylists tried to prevent the singer from performing to a prime-time audience on Disney-owned ABC. “It seems like every season I either rip the seam of my pants or I'm just extremely physically expressive. I love this outfit so much and I knew I was rolling the dice, but I was like 'who cares?'”
