Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have been singing each other's praises since they first met eight years ago. But in a recent Instagram Live chat with fans to celebrate her new single, “Woman's World,” Perry was extremely candid about one of the reasons the couple has been able to stay together for so long.
“Tell us about Orlando's “magic wand”.,” Perry read with a smile on her face while going through fan questions during the session. Perry let out a rich raspberry and smiled at someone off-camera, seeming taken in by the intimate nature of the question. “Well, we've been together for a while,” he said while chewing gum and signing promotional items.
“Well, I guess he's got the magic in him,” he finally replied, singing the last line to the tune of BoB's 2010 hit “Magic.” Outraging herself with the bordering on NSFW response, Perry got serious about Bloom, with whom she shares four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.
“No, it's really his heart,” she said. “And she gave me my greatest gift… Daisy Pigeon,” she whispered.
Over the weekend, Perry appeared to respond to a wave of criticism for her “Woman's World” video, sharing behind-the-scenes footage to explain her intentions for the visual that mixes feminist tropes and lyrics with plenty of cheeky visuals. “YOU CAN DO ANYTHING! STILL SATIRE!” Perry captioned it Instagram Position.
Between criticism that Perry's song failed in its attempt to become a feminist anthem and her team-up with the song's co-producer Dr. Luke — who was accused of sexual harassment by Kesha before the singer and producer settled a bitter nine-year legal battle in 2023 before it went to trial — “Woman's World” didn't seem to land the way the singer intended.
“We're just having fun being a little bit sarcastic with it, it's very loose and very on the nose,” Perry says in the first half of the video seeming to anticipate some potential backlash. “With this set, it's like, 'We're not into the male gaze, but we're really into the male gaze,' and we're playing it really over the top and on the nose because I'm going to get smashed, which is like a reset, a reset for me and a reset for my idea of the feminine divine, and it's a whole different world we're going into after that.”
“Woman's World” is the first single from Perry's upcoming follow-up Smile album from 2020, 143which is expected to be released on September 20.
