It turns out that many viewers only knew “Nightcall” as “that song that Ryan Gosling listens to in Drive.
During the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, French rock band Phoenix welcomed Kavinsky on stage for a performance of their seminal 2010 song “Nightcall” alongside Angèle. While the song never reached the top of the charts, its inclusion in the cult classic film Drive He propelled it into mainstream consciousness in 2011.
The timeless song is now breaking Shazam records after leading the charge for the most Shazamed minute in the app's history, an Apple representative said. EDM.comApple acquired the music identification app in September 2018 for an estimated $400 million.
According to Apple, “Nightcall” also broke the record for the most searched song on Shazam in a single day. France, Mexico and the United States were the three countries that conducted the most searches during the closing ceremony. It surpassed “Lisztomania” and Phoenix’s “If I Ever Feel Better,” which also saw an increase in searches in the same period.
The previous holder of that record didn't hold the title for long. Interestingly, the most Shazamed song in a single day before that was Cerrone's “Supernature,” which came during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on July 26.
