Keagan Grimm is a 43-year-old rapper from Orlando, Florida who started in the underground bad scene under the original moniker Grimm Gutter, properly introducing himself in 2015 from the debut EP. Day of Darkness followed by The dark in 2019 & Gravel Mouth in 2021, respectively, in addition to the possibilities for many notable names in the juggalo sphere, from BAD MinD to Claas and even Bukshot of the Underground Avengers respectively. As his popularity continues to grow among horror heads, however, the sophomore effort he's been teasing since last summer after his set at the 3rd annual Camp Xul sounds promising.
After the introduction of “First Communion”, the first song “Church” kicks off the album with a boom bap instrumental from J Reno talking about the evil in this bitch, while “Indigo” finds BAD MinND incorporating synthesizers and hi-hats explaining that It's not hard to mind your own business or lie to kick it. “Arson Welles” is that piano/cloud rap crossover looking to let off steam before “Warship” with Famz jumping over a trap beat and talking about running away like a powder keg.
“Old Mister Misery” brings the keys back into the fold likening itself to that of a living shadow just before the Sleep Lyrical “Nasty Habits” combines synths and hi-hats once again talking about how it should they have seen another red flag. “Runaway” expresses Keagan's desire to run away accompanied by a cold snare beat, but then the unhinged “Weathered” with Nastie Ink & Stray talking about something inside.
The song “Sin, Repent, Repeat” stays grounded in that dark trap sound basically saying there's no hope here, while “Danse Macabre” featuring Billy Obey & SON blends g-funk and boom bap together talking about the Heaven that it sheds light on them because they deserve it. “Fine By Me” wraps up the LP with 1 final trap joint that goes from facing his demons to not sleeping at all.
Keagan has gotten noticeably better as an MC over the years, so I got into it Gospelconvinced that it could be perhaps the most crafted full-length in his discography to date. So: This is what happens here. J Reno & BAD MinD's production swings between boom bap and trap, Keagan himself is on a whole new level lyrically, and the guest list is tightly packed with some of the biggest names in the underground horror scene.
