Nettles co-wrote the song with Bill Sherman for the PBS series American Anthems. Won for Outstanding Original Song.

Connie Chung presented her husband, veteran talk show host Maury Povich, with a Lifetime Achievement honor at the Daytime Emmys, following a tribute package featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Clarkson, Lewis Black and more.
“My husband, Maury Povich, is the AID, the greatest of all time,” Chung said. “Maury is the longest-running daytime talk show host in broadcast television history. I know you think he's been determining the paternity of every kid in America his whole life, but no, in his 67 freaking years on TV, he's been a news reporter and news anchor and old-fashioned talk show host who interviewed world leaders. politicians, members of Congress, authors, movie stars and even Julia Child.”
PREVIOUS (Dec. 15): Kelly Clarkson and her hit daytime talk show continued their winning streak at the 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards, which finally aired live on CBS on Friday, December 15. The show aired six months after its originally announced June 16 air date, with a delay caused by strikes by Hollywood writers and actors. (The nominations were announced way back on April 26.)
Clarkson won daytime talk show host, despite “news” and “entertainment” presenters competing this year. There have been separate winners for both genres in recent years. Clarkson has won outstanding entertainment talk show host for the past three years.
Also, The Kelly Clarkson Show won outstanding daytime talk series, although the “news” and “entertainment” series competed there as well. Clarkson's show has won Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment for the past two years. This year the show won the best nominations The Drew Barrymore Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan and Today with Honda and Jenna as well as a first-time candidate The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Clarkson has won seven Daytime Emmys in the first four seasons of her show. This compares to three Grammy Awards over a much longer period of time – 21 years. Clarkson is up for another Grammy at the February 4 ceremony – best pop vocal album for Chemistry. She and Adele are currently tied for the most wins in this category – two each.
Clarkson was not present to accept her awards for the second year in a row. Should she show up to support the industry (and the award show) that has been so good to her? Probably.
Entertainment tonightKevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner hosted the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys, held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles. They also accepted that program's award for entertainment news series.
Jennifer Nettles sang “Life Is Sweet,” co-wrote the song with Bill Sherman for the PBS series American Anthems, above the In Memoriam point. The segment included daytime TV legends such as Barbara Walters and Bob Barker, as well as Olivia Newton-John (who wrote songs for As the world turns), The Company of Three Starring Suzanne Somers and Stephen “tWitch” Boss, known for his role as a dancer, air personality and producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Daytime TV icon Susan Lucci received lifetime honors at the ceremony. Lucci lost the Daytime Emmy 18 times playing Erica Kane All my children before finally winning on her 19th attempt. Carol Burnett, Andy Cohen and Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos were among those who paid tribute to Lucci via video clip.
Longtime TV, radio and red carpet host and producer Tanya Hart and veteran musician/variety producer Al Schwartz were among those inducted into the Academy's Gold Circle, honoring people with 50 years of success. Hart is best known for her work on the American Urban Radio Networks, BET and E! Entertainment. Schwartz is best known for his long association with Dick Clark on shows such as the American Music Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. It is the first time that these awards have been presented at the national level. These awards were presented by tabloid talk show veteran Maury Povich, who is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Creative Arts Daytime Emmys on Saturday, December 16.
The Daytime Emmys also paid tribute Dr. Phil and Rachel Raytwo long-running talk shows that ended their runs this season.
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized achievement in television programming and craft since 1974. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be held by content type, as opposed to program airtime.
The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were presented by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong were executive producers for NATAS, while David McKenzie was an executive producer from ATI.
In a highly unusual scheduling move, The Daytime Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmys will be broadcast live on Saturday, December 16, the day after the main telecast, on Watch.TheEmmys.TV and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV and Roku. This show will also be held at the Westin Bonaventure.
