Always a Swiftie, Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to Taylor Swift on her daytime talk show on Tuesday evening (November 26) by performing a cover of “Lavender Haze” during the popular Kellyoke segment.
Dressed in a yellow top and patterned skirt, the star effortlessly hit Swift's high notes on the chorus, singing: “I feel the lavender mist creeping up on me/ Surreal, I'm damned if I give a damn what people say/ No deal, 1950s — they want from me/ I just want to stay in this fog of hers lavender”.
“Lavender Haze” appeared on Swift's Billboard 200 chart-topping album of 2022, Midnightand the song reached no. 2 on the Hot 100 Songs chart. “It came across the phrase 'lavender mist' when I was watching Mad Men,” she previously explained of the track in her now-deleted “Midnights Mayhem With Me” video posted to Instagram. “I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool and it turns out it's a common phrase used in the 50s where they would describe being in love.”
He continued, “I guess in theory, when you're in the lavender mist, you're going to do anything to stay there and not let people put you under that cloud. I think a lot of people need to get into this now, not just “public figures”, because we live in the age of social media. If the world finds out you're in love with someone, it's going to take its toll.”
