Kelly Clarkson wins one, loses one at the 2024 Daytime Emmys

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” won Outstanding Daytime Talk Series for the fourth year in a row at the 2024 Daytime Emmys held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday (June 7) and airing on CBS. Entertainment TonightKevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner co-hosted the show.

Kelly Clarkson has won eight Daytime Emmys during the first five seasons of her popular talk show (compared to three Grammys over a much longer period).

Accepting the award for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series, Clarkson specifically thanked NBC for listening to her concerns when it proposed moving the show from Los Angeles to New York. “I told them, 'My life isn't going too well,' and they helped us move,” she said. “It's been so great not only for me and my family but also for the show. Thank you for thinking about mental health and not just a product.”

Clarkson presented the first award of the night. The producers of the awards show obviously wanted to signal to the TV audience that they were in the house. Clarkson had not attended the Daytime Emmys in recent years.

However, Clarkson did not win outstanding daytime talk show host, an award she had won for the past four years in a row. The award was given to married syndicated stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Live with Kelly and Mark. It was a surprise win: Ripa and Consuelos were not present, causing the show to run short.

This was Ripa's sixth win in this category. Only three other hosts have won six or more times in the category's history, which dates back to 1974. Phil Donahue leads with nine awards in the category, followed by Oprah Winfrey (seven) and Rosie O'Donnell (also six). . What's most impressive about Ripa's track record in the division is that she's won alongside it four different co-hosts. She and Regis Philbin won twice in the category. TV legend Dick Van Dyke won guest starring in a daytime drama series for his appearance Days of our Lives at the Peacock. At 98, Van Dyke is the oldest Daytime Emmy winner in history. “If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself,” Van Dyke joked in accepting the honor. Van Dyck, who appeared in Mary Poppins The soundtrack, which topped the Billboard 200 for 14 weeks in 1965, was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1995 and received Kennedy Center Honors in 2020.

Emmy-nominated Amanda Kloots and Jerry O'Connell co-host it The reasonopened the show with a special material version of Petula Clark's classic “Downtown,” a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965. The re-recording was quite apt, a throwback to the days when such segments were a staple of variety and award shows .

The In Memoriam segment included entertainment journalist Sam Rubin (KTLA, Los Angeles) and actor and host Louis Gossett Jr.

If it doesn't seem like an entire year has passed since the last Daytime Emmys, you're onto something. The 2023 Daytime Emmys took place on December 15. They were delayed a full six months due to last year's strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA.

The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 8. It will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on watch.TheEmmys.tv and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV and Roku .

The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are presented by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong were executive producers for NATAS, while David McKenzie was the executive producer from ATI.
