Kendrick Lamar's first GNX The visual arrived on Monday (November 25), and the Compton rhymer reps his hometown in the “Squabble Up” video.
Interspersed with Debbie Deb's 1984 dance-bop 'When I Hear Music', 'Squabble Up' has been hailed as an early standout from Lamar's dance music. GNX album and didn't waste much time delivering the Calmatic-directed music video days later.
In the visual, K. Dot dances in a blue hoodie and fitted hat accompanied by a 105 freeway traffic sign pulled from the road. He is joined by dancers hitting intricate routines choreographed by Charm La'Donna and members of the Blood gang in a light green pickle room, repeating their sets throughout.
There's even humor in the clip when Kendrick takes a second to sit down and read a How To Be More Like Kendrick For Dummies book, and then holds a “Jesus Saves Gangsters” sign.
Fans have been trying to decipher the hidden meaning behind Kendrick's promotion Compton Christmas Parade, while others pointed out images that appeared to be inspired by Menace II Society and Ice-T's 1988 Power album.
“Squabble Up” – which landed Bulletin boardThe ranking of the album's tracks at No. 3 — was originally premiered by Lamar over the summer as fans ran with the tentatively titled “Broccoli” clip. Sounwave and Jack Antonoff are credited as co-producers on the infectious track, which is expected to debut high on next week's Billboard Hot 100.
GNX closes out what has been a rap MVP campaign for Kendrick, who has already added a pair of No. 1 hits to his name in 2024 thanks to Future and Metro Boomin's 'Like That' as well as 'Not Like Us'.
