Noted singer-songwriter, producer and EDM.com Class of 2024 member Kenya Grace is receiving well-deserved recognition from ASCAP.
The leading performing rights organization will soon present Grace with its prestigious Global Impact Award, recognizing her meteoric rise to the upper echelon of electronic music following the release of her 2023 hit “Strangers.”
After going viral on TikTok, the song effectively redefined liquid drum & bass for a new generation of dance music enthusiasts en route to being named one of the EDM.comThe best songs of the year. It is also worth noting that “Strangers” became the first number one in the history of BillboardThe Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart will be written, produced and sung solely by a woman.
“Kenya Grace is at the forefront of a new wave of dance-driven pop music,” said Paul Williams, ASCAP President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. “As the sole writer and producer of her self-recorded songs, Kenya possesses a DIY style that is astonishingly innovative and has made her a favorite of the dance music community. We are thrilled to present this pioneering music creator with the ASCAP Global Award Impact Award.”
Grace is joined in celebrating her award by her partner Cian Ducrot, an Irish independent singer-songwriter who received the ASCAP Vanguard Award, which recognizes “artists whose innovative work is helping to shape the future of music.”
In receiving the honor, Grace follows previous winners such as Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, MNEK, Lewis Capaldi, Dev Hynes and Becky Hill, among others. The award will be presented at “ASCAP London Celebrates,” an invitation-only celebration scheduled for June 18 in London.
