The stellar group opened the show with the live debut of three From hell I rise tracks before diving into Slayer’s discography for “Repentless.”
From there, the setlist scattered a handful of other Slayer cuts from various eras (“Hate Worldwide,” “Chemical Warfare,” “Disciple”) among most of the songs on From hell I rise. The 17-song set concluded with a crushing back-to-back combo of Slayer staples “Raining Blood” and “Black Magic,” leading into the end of the new title track, “From Hell I Rise.”
When King first detailed his solo band, it was assumed it would be his major post-Slayer project, continuing the legacy of the iconic thrash band. However, just a few weeks later, it was announced that Slayer would be reuniting for the fall festival dates.
As of now, it looks like King will be pulling double duty with his solo act and a reunited Slayer. His solo band has appearances scheduled for Thursday (May 9) at Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, and May 16 at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, and will support Mastodon and Lamb of God on tour for North America. summer (get tickets here).
