It is the singer's first new song after settling her lawsuit with Dr. Luke and parting ways with his label through RCA
Kesha has teased a new song called “Joy Ride.” On Sunday, the singer took to Instagram to share a snippet of the track and announced that it will arrive on July 4th.
In the Instagram video clip, Kesha appears in several different red outfits as she poses in a car, takes a ride in a convertible while holding up the camera, wears a red cowboy hat and holds a handwritten cardboard sign with the name of the song on it . The upbeat song teaser features the repeated line “I'm a bitch”. Kesha also captioned the video with the sentiment: “You're right I'm a bitch,” she wrote.
The song's arrival on Independence Day is a fitting date for its release, given Kesha's new found freedom. It will be the first new song released since settling the nearly decade-long defamation lawsuit with Dr. Luke last summer, years after Kesha filed a lawsuit against the producer in 2014 alleging sexual, physical and emotional abuse. It also marks her first release since parting ways with Dr. Kemosabe imprint. Luke via RCA in December.
She recently celebrated her first appearance as a “free fucking woman” during WeHo Pride at Outloud Fest, where she debuted her new unreleased song “Freedom.”
“This is my first show as a free f*cking woman,” Kesha said during her headlining set before premiering “Freedom” live. She added: “Someone else do you feel free tonight?'
Kesha's “Joy Ride” arrives a week before Katy Perry's new song “Woman's World” drops from her upcoming sixth album, which Dr. Luke co-produced with Max Martin, Stargate and several others. Perry has previously worked with the producing pair of Dr. Luke and Martin on some of her biggest hits including 'I Kissed a Girl', 'Teenage Dream', 'Dark Horse' and 'Roar'.
