After not releasing an album for half a decade, Khalid is back and better than ever with his third studio album ‘Sincere.’ He talks about how he knew it was time to release ‘Sincere,’ reminisces about the nostalgia of his early hits like “Young Dumb & Broke” and “Location,” and explains how his songwriting inspiration is sporadic and often a feeling of the moment. He also shares how his intuition guides his music, his dream collaboration with Tyla, and more.
Khalid:
I mean, I'm not afraid to say it, but I love listening to my music because it's like my own personal diary entries that I can reread.
Rania Aniftos:
Completely!
Khalid:
And I'm like, did I think about that?
Hey, what's up? I'm Khalid and you're watching Billboard News.
Rania Aniftos:
Hey everyone, this is Rania Aniftos with Billboard News. And I couldn't be more excited. Today I have one of my favorite artists here in the studio: Khalid!
Khalid:
How are you all? I'm glad to be here.
Rania Aniftos:
I'm very happy to have you.
Khalid:
Thank you for having me.
Rania Aniftos:
And it's a very special moment in your career. You're about to release your third studio album, 'Sincere'.
Khalid:
This is the album I've been waiting for for five years. I feel like it's the album full of music I've been saving for the last half decade just for the perfect moment. And I feel like no moment is more perfect.
Rania Aniftos:
At what point in your growth journey are you thinking, “I’m comfortable with this”?
Khalid:
A year ago I met a random person in South Africa. I had a conversation with him. He shook my hand, looked me in the eyes and said, “Next year is going to be one of the best years of your career so far. He said, 2024.”
Keep watching for more!
