The Breeders’ Kim Deal has announced her first debut solo album, Nobody Loves You More, which arrives on Nov. 22 via 4AD. The musician has also shared the lead single, “Crystal Breath.”
In the accompanying Alex Da Corte-directed video, Deal appears before a fuzzy, white noise backdrop that mirrors the propulsive rhythms and the buzzy riffs of the new track. “Beat by beat I expel your point of view,” she sings. “The heels of my imagination digging into you I start a new life/ Beat’s gonna lead us/Live on/Beat’s gonna lead us Live on.”
While “Crystal Breath” is the lead single for the album, she previously released the Steve Albini-helmed “Coast.” Albini, who died in May, is credited as recording engineer for eight of the 11 tracks, which were recorded at his Electric Audio studio in Chicago.
Nobody Loves You More was culled over several years, beginning in 2011 with “Are You Mine?” and “Wish I Was,” following Deal’s coming off Pixies’ Lost Cities Tour, after which Deal moved to Los Angeles. Deal self-released early versions of those tracks as part of a five-part, 10-song vinyl series in 2013. The last recording for the album was also made with her close friend Albini at his studio in November 2022.
The album, which Deal self-produced, features current Breeders members sister Kelley Deal and Jim Macpherson, and former members Mando Lopez and Britt Walford. Other collaborators include Raymond McGinley (Teenage Fanclub), Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs), and Savages’ Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan.
Nobody Loves You More will be released in a variety of formats, including digitally, via CD, and black, Florida Orange, and Dazzling Galaxy vinyl versions; it is available for preorder.
