King Diamond kicked off his North American tour on Tuesday night (October 15th) in San Antonio, Texas, performing two new songs titled “Spider Lilly” and “Electro Therapy” during the 13-song set.
The King hasn’t released a new song since 2019’s “Masquerade of Madness,” so the live debuts bode well for fans anticipating new material from the heavy metal legend.
Based on audience footage, we can gather that “Spider Lilly” clocks in at just over four minutes in length and is a thrashy number featuring prominent ascending falsetto vocals from King Diamond. Meanwhile, “Electro Therapy” closed out the set and is a bit groovier and more mid-tempo, also running about four minutes.
Perhaps more new songs are in store for concertgoers as King Diamond continues his extensive tour, which features guest vocals from Mykur and a stacked support bill of Overkill and Night Demon.
Next up, the trek stops in Houston on Wednesday (October 16th) and routes through much of the continent before wrapping up on December 6th in Dallas. Get tickets here.
King Diamond’s long-awaited album The Institute — what would be his first in nearly two decades — appears to on the horizon, with the tour’s press release stating that it “will be released in 2025” via Metal Blade Records. The timeline for the project has been a lengthy one, however, no doubt delayed by the COVID pandemic, as King Diamond initially mentioned the album in late 2019.
