“This is our most collaborative record yet,” frontman Stu Mackenzie says of the new album, which will be released on August 9.
King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard have announced their new album, Flight b741coming on August 9th. It is the first album they will release on their own label, (p)doom records.
The Australian group also shared the album's first single, “Le Risque,” along with its music video, which finds the band running and playing in an airplane hangar. It also marks the vocal debut of drummer Michael Cavanagh.
“We were very fortunate to be granted access to this amazing air hanger. The song was chosen because most of the Gizz guys had a song and I was excited to get the mic rolling with a fun, non-stop beat,” director Guy Tyzack said in a statement about the video shoot. “The day was too full for what we wanted to get and we didn't want to cut corners. Our crew was tight and the Gizz guys know how to put on a show. We were so tight for time that I didn't pee all day.”
The prolific band's 26th album, Flight b741, is the follow-up to their two 2023 albums, The silver cord and PetroDragonic Apocalypsethe Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and Principle of Merciless Sentencing.
Eschewing their recent concept albums, their new album was more “free and easy” in their approach. “This is our most collaborative record yet – the collaboration was in the room, it was free and everyone brought songs and ideas,” frontman Stu Mackenzie said in a statement. “And we wanted to get as many protagonists as we could and pass the mic.”
