King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have announced a new album. Landing on August 9, Flight B741 is the 26th studio LP from the prolific Australian rock band. The six-piece releases the record on its new (P)Doom Records. Today, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard share the single “Le Risque,” which features the vocal debut of drummer Michael Cavanagh. Flight B741 here's King Gizzard's pair of 2023 albums: The silver cord and PetroDragonic Apocalypse? or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merriless Damnation. While writing their new material, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard looked to early Steve Miller Band and the Band, trying to keep the songs loose and intuitive.
“This is our most collaborative record yet,” said band leader Stu Mackenzie in press material. “The collaboration took place in the hall, it was free and everyone brought songs and ideas. And we wanted to have as many protagonists as we could and pass the microphone.”
Speaking about the goofy video featuring lots of vintage planes, director Guy Tyzack said: “We were very lucky to be given access to this amazing air hanger. The song was chosen because most of the Gizz guys had a song and I was excited to get the mic rolling with a fun, non-stop beat. The day was too full for what we wanted to get and we didn't want to cut corners. Our crew was tight and the Gizz guys know how to put on a show. We were so tight for time that I didn't pee all day.”
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are currently on a massive world tour.
