A year after their last live show, New York rock outfit Kiss have celebrated their breakup anniversary with a new video recap of their last show.
The final show – which took place on Saturday 2 December 2023 – saw the veteran band return to New York's Madison Square Garden for the final date of their extended End of the Road farewell tour.
“One year ago today – December 2, 2023 – The last ever KISS tour reached The End Of The Road with one last epic show at Madison Square Garden in New York City!” the team wrote on social media. “Relive the magic of that night with this amazing MSG concert recap.”
At 23 tracks, the band said goodbye to their legions of fans with a fitting set full of their famous hits and live favorites – with their trademark stage show. The concert was also streamed live on PPV.COM, and now Kiss has shared a new video recording footage of the band in front of the crowd of 20,000.
Notably, Kiss' latest show was accompanied by news that the group plans to live on as digital avatars after their split. The band made the surprise announcement at the end of the show, with singer/guitarist Paul Stanley telling fans “your love, your power, made us immortal”.
“The new era of Kiss is starring now!” he added.
The Kiss avatars were created by George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic in collaboration with Sweden's Pophouse Entertainment Group, according to Associated Press. The companies previously collaborated on the ABBA Voyage show in London, a virtual concert performed by the Swedish pop group.
“Kiss could have a concert in three cities on the same night on three different continents. That's what you could do with it,” Pophouse's CEO told the AP.
While details weren't made clear at the time, the band announced just weeks later that their digital shows would begin in Las Vegas in 2027. “It's a must-see experience,” Stanley said. Bulletin board'small Behind the Setlist podcast this year. “It's beyond anything else he's thought of.”
“We're creating something that's not a concert,” he added. “The idea of a hologram — and it's not a hologram, but that term seems to be thrown around a lot — but the idea of a simulated concert is not what we want to do. Honestly, I'd find it boring.”
