Reunited Canadian metal group Kittie released new song “We Are Shadows,” their second single since returning from their hiatus.
The band took home the award for Heavy Song of the Week for the previous single, “Eyes Wide Open,” and “We Are Shadows” follows the same line of wonderful thrash metal. The choppy beats and riffs are tight and relentless, and frontwoman Morgan Lander takes a more melodic vocal route on this track, recalling Kittie's nu-metal heyday.
“'We Are Shadows' is about the uncertainty of a future we can no longer control,” Lander explained in a press release. “We have reached a critical place in life and in our world, and like an eclipse reaching the sun, we are losing the light.”
He continued: “The image of shadows slowly fading into the darkness of the evening, and the analogy of 'us' as shadows in the night really illustrate the possibility of slowly fading into oblivion. However, it is not a song of hope, it is a song of acceptance of the damage we cause and acceptance of our destiny. “We have let the darkness take over and that is why we are determined to fade into the night with it.”
Kittie has several North American festival dates scheduled for 2024, including Sick New World, Welcome to Rockville, Sonic Temple and more.
